What We Eat in a Week

What We Eat in a Week

Our weekly dinner routine: home-cooked, takeout and eating out.

The backstory

When we were in the thick of shutdowns and distancing, we got very good at our two-week grocery haul. We could walk through the Target grocery aisles on auto-pilot, pulling things off the shelves without a second thought. Before checking out, we’d count on our hands the number of dinners we had in our cart. The magic number was always 10, knowing that we’d have our Chipotle and take-out nights.

Since the reopening and return to restaurants over the summer, our weekly meal routine is all over the place. No more meatless Monday, taco Tuesday, pasta Wednesday, Chipotle Thursday, and frozen pizza Friday. We go grocery shopping without our mental list and no longer have our 10-meal benchmark for when we know it’s time to checkout. We did a grocery run this past weekend and tried to cut down what we grabbed because the two-week haul leaves us wasting more than we’d like. So we tried to stick to 4 meals, knowing that we can’t resist a reservation at a new or staple table. Here’s what we eat in a week…lately.

Our weekly dinner routine

Monday: An I-don’t-want-to-think-anymore-today kind of meal. Salad mix, veggie chili and rice. Low fuss. High satisfaction. And then probably a Blizzard because Mobile Monday deals in the app do not disappoint.

Tuesday: Try something new. We’ve been doing super-simple baked salmon and quinoa with probably another salad mix. Pictured above, I topped it with caramelized onions. Everything ✍️ is ✍️ better ✍️ with ✍️ caramelized ✍️ onions.

Wednesday: Tried-and-true meals only. Either a tofu veggie stir fry on rice or mushroom + cauliflower/broccoli pesto pasta. Sometimes we add chicken if we’re feeling swole. teehee.

Thursday: E’s two-a-day day means…Chipotle night! We both do a sofritas burrito bowl, side tortilla and large chips and guac. No lettuce…it just gets in the way.

Friday: Probably eating out. We’ve been wanting to try Sidebar and Step Child - any tips? Let’s hang.

Saturday: Either Thai takeout (hi, Lisu’s) or eating out again. Text us.

Sunday: Put-the-scaries-on-ice-and-keep-it-simple kind of night. Aka, frozen pizzas or TJ’s orange chicken on rice.
